Cybersecurity

    Cybersecurity in the Modern World

In a more online and connected world than ever, protecting data and personal information is becoming harder and harder. Almost every year, sometimes even every month, you hear about a big data leak. Take the Equifax data breach is 2017 for example. Millions of peoples important personal information and identifying information was stolen due to bad cybersecurity practices by Equifax.

Issues just like that are going to start becoming more and more prevalent as we become more reliant on technology and web services for our daily lives. Most people don't even realize just how much identifying information they are actually giving away to these services. In the Equifax hacks 431,000 people had identity theft happen to them using the data stolen from these breaches. (Source). If we don't start becoming more protective of our data and putting more pressure on big corporations to protect this data, than we are going to start seeing breaches like these become much more common.

Every single year since we've been averaging more and more breaches that seem to be getting more dangerous and frequent. If people want to protect their data they'll start having to be very cautious of using their credit card on certain sites, entering address, and other identifying information. We'll want to start getting younger people interested in cybersecurity and getting more funding for cybersecurity related programs. Cybersecurity is a very important service currently and will become even more important in the near future and should be getting more attention and funding.
